I’ve never been a huge fan of country music. However, I’ll admit I love Kacey Musgraves. Especially this song. Why?

I can relate to the lyrics of this song as I’m sure everyone reading today can too. In life, there are always those people who think their shit doesn’t stink. They walk around thinking they are better than everyone, judging people never taking the time to recognize their own flaws while pointing out yours. I’ve been fortunate enough to encounter these types of people a time or two. You know the ones? They try and make you feel bad about yourself despite the fact their own reality sucks. I love the scene in Romy and Michele when they tell the “caddy” girls off. Like Romy and Michele. I don’t care what other people think of me. What matters is what I think of me and I think I’m A-OK!!

Like Romy and Michele, I’m a little rough around the edges, I like to beat to the beat of my own drum. I’ve had some successes and I’ve had some failures, I’ve experienced good times and I’ve experienced bad times but through it all I’m still the same me I’ve always been. I am not ashamed of who I am or what I look like. I’m not ashamed of the experiences life has thrown my way. I don’t try and hide anything about my life and I sure as hell don’t like being that buzz kill Kacey sings about every time I open my mouth. To those people who want to think they are better than me or god forbid think they are perfect and feel the need to judge me or others, I say “get on your high horse and get out of here!”

I believe in the old sayin’ “treat others like you would like to be treated” and always remember we are all made by the same creator. We are all the same. None of us are better than each other. Maybe the world would be a better place if we remembered that. However, who am I? I’m just me.
